The Scientific Conference 2024 - Infection Control: Present and Future was successfully organized by the Vietnam Infection Control Association on September 14, 2024 in Hanoi. The conference welcomed nearly 700 scientists and experts on infection control from the country and internationally from CDC USA, France, Asia - Pacific region, public and private health facilities in Vietnam to attend, share useful information and practical experiences through speeches, 18 topics and more than 45 scientific reports on policies, standards, implementation guidelines, infection control work, hospital environmental management... and update new trends in intensive infection control.
Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, said that in the current context, infection control is one of the key factors to improve the quality of medical services, protect public health and ensure the safety of patients and medical staff. We have witnessed remarkable progress in the application of infection control measures at medical facilities, contributing to preventing the spread of epidemics, especially in the context of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, to diseases caused by Ebola, measles, whooping cough, monkeypox, etc., which not only threaten public health worldwide but also cause serious economic and social consequences. Therefore, infection control is one of the key factors to improve the quality of medical services, protect public health and ensure the safety of patients and medical staff.
In Vietnam, in recent years, the Party, State, Government and the health sector have paid great attention to infection control and disease prevention, and regulations on infection control have been put into laws, decrees, circulars and professional guidelines for medical examination and treatment facilities and the community to implement. The Vietnam Infection Control Association always participates with the Ministry of Health in implementing infection control and disease prevention programs, organizing training programs, seminars and courses to improve the capacity of health workers on infection control and participate in the development and updating of infection control standards.
In her opening speech, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thi Anh Thu, President of the Vietnam Infection Control Association, said that the conference was an opportunity for infection control specialists, microbiologists, quality managers and colleagues working in infection control in all regions of the country to share research and experiences in infection control and safety practices, thereby helping to improve the quality of diagnosis, treatment and health care for the community.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Infection Control Association organized and awarded the "Excellent Sterilization Center - Efforts to improve sterilization quality" Award to 11 medical facilities in the country for the first time, in order to create a platform for hospitals to strive to strengthen sterilization work, and at the same time find sterilization center models for hospitals to refer to and improve hospital quality. Sterilization Centers are evaluated based on 140 criteria with a total score of 200 points, divided into 7 categories, including Centralized instrument management, infrastructure, equipment and use, human resource management, instrument processing process, instrument management and processing quality monitoring process, and quality improvement initiatives.
